A new trailer for Protagonist《主角》has been uploaded to their social media account. It has been translated below. Protagonist is a third-person experience that puts you undercover at a performing arts academy. A demo was released for Steam Next Fest in February, 2026.
Welcome to “Jinglin Performing Arts Academy Master Class”—a dreamlike place hailed as the “Whampoa Military Academy of Starmaking,” a meticulously crafted trap hidden beneath the spotlight.
You will play Lu Sheng, an undercover reporter codenamed “Echo.” To investigate the truth behind your sister’s bizarre ordeal, you disguise yourself as an “actor solely focused on making money,” infiltrating this glamorous yet dark world of fame and fortune.
Here, everyone is an actor, every word is a line. Your mentor, classmates, lover, even your guide, could become your opponent in the next second. The system is watching you, the rules are taming you, and you must—remain clear-headed amidst lies, and seek the truth within the traps.
The game stars a few prominent FMV veterans including Zhang Kaiyue (章凯玥) who was in My Journey and Director Simulator, and Feng Ruohang (冯若航) who was in Ladies Don’t Tempt My immortality. Although Rouhang apparently does not appear in the game until Chapter 3.
The demo received a lukewarm response but is still available to try. It does not currently support English and the full game does not list support for English either.
This is only the second social media post on the game’s official Douyin since it released a demo in February, so they must have finally found the account’s password. Given there is a bit more activity recently, it might release in June or July.
