My Destiny Girls Review

The setup for the characters is simple, with a school acquaintance, a childhood friend, one roommate, one boss, and a stalker type who makes you meet her dad. They do mostly follow the tropes of the genre though, so nothing too original here, but they are still likeable. Zhuang Shi Ying (played by Fang Jin) is the standout here, which is saying something given how good the others are.

It is translated pretty well (including phone messages) and some of the dialogue and actions are funny, which is always good when going back through branching choices. Scene transitions are not always smooth, but the cuts are usually not too noticeable.

When going back to choose other branching paths, it doesn’t typically lead to long alternate scenarios, sadly. And there are a few situations where the admirer is just swapped and the events play out the same, which is a little disappointing. Also some hidden scenes are just annoying to unlock because you cannot progress to the next chapter unless you have the right balance of total affection.

Biggest disappointment is that most romance arcs end too abruptly. While other games might have a slice-of-life and maybe a nice montage, here they tend to end after a quick confession. To make it worse, Zhuang Shi Ying’s final credits scene puts her in rather unflattering clothes. Maybe part of this is because there are a few endings for each (good / bad) but it is still a great shame that it lacks that solid conclusion phase (that Charming Hearts did so well).

The game takes about three hours for a single romance to credits, and another three to see nearly all of the other scenes. It is worth playing for Zhuang Shi Ying alone, but even without her it would be a solid dating sim.
