Eternal Rebirth –Curses of Love- Review

Eternal Rebirth –Curses of Love is a mediocre first-person FMV interactive story that masquerades as something much better than it is. It does a few things well, namely audio and video, but the rest is long and hollow unless you’re only here for the admittedly decent revealing shots.

The player-character is a Photographer who starts the game with erectile dysfunction issues when trying to get busy with one of his willing models. She leaves annoyed, and he learns that in a past life he was a King who had 999 concubines, and this personal problem is punishment for failing them. To restore his masculinity, he must find the reincarnation of the concubines and grant their wish. He only meets five of them in the game, not including the first (who is never confirmed), and almost all of them wish to merely have sex with him.

The story does not bring romance or emotional depth. The admirers are one-dimensional and extremely bland. Five out of six are models, and even the one non-model asks for a photo shoot anyway. Aside from a little bit of rivalry, they really have no real personality. Once you make them recollect their past lives, they acquiesce and then the relationship is quickly over. Aside from the first two, the game progresses through each admirer linearly, rather than mixing them together.

Given the narrative focus, the experience is fairly lewd. There are many scenes with revealing clothing, including lingerie, bunny suits, swimwear, cleavage, short skirts etc. These are shot relatively tastefully and the actresses/models are acutely aware of camera angles. It never simulates sex, like in Come on Fantasy baby!, but the thought process is there. Although it has some decent looking admirers, four side characters are more attractive than half of the main cast.

Audio is amazing though, so clear and well balanced, and practically the genre’s benchmark. The video quality is also good, helped by the slower camera movement. Achievements did not work for me on Epic, they’re just blank. Epic store does not mention English subtitles but they are present; while they’re not great, with a handful of scenes missing subs, they’re okay. Progression is different than normal because it seems you need to view most scenes to unlock the next chapter (it is unclear how this actually works). So it took 6 hours to get to the end, and another 1 to see everything. Sadly the end is bad, with a lame cliffhanger and no resolution to the initial problem. It is priced higher than others, so wait for a discount before jumping in.
