Soul Touch Review

You play as Li Pu, a marketing executive at an unconventional company that uses rooftop tents as offices. A fierce business woman, Yu Zhi, wants to sell fleshlights and you enlist a popular streamer, Zhong Ran, for promotion, while a naïve personal assistant, Xu Zhaozhao, helps. When the promotion fails, the four of you go elsewhere. While the marketing shapes the initial encounters, it falls behind both the succubus theme and romance.

The prominent feature of Soul Touch is that every chapter ends with a dream of a succubus that takes the form of a woman listed above. These dreamy chats will let you find out secrets about a love interest of your choice, as they tempt you with human desire. Secrets can help improve relationships, or you could ignore that and try to revisit the succubus. Actresses play their sexier alternates well, and the subtle changes to dialogue shows lots of thought has gone into the demonic portion.

With only three love interests, Soul Touch is more focused than most. The contrast between the three is great: innocent, gentle, tough. The love scale is also balanced, with one being devoted, another wanting reciprocation, and the final one seeking to be desired. Few games aim for, let alone achieve, these distinctions. Despite their different personalities, it is surprisingly hard to pick the best, probably because at 4 hours long, each becomes a worthy individual.

The game tracks two favor values for each love interest, called Crush and Horny in the menu, but perhaps better called Love and Desire. Love increases with actions that form a connection, like offering a hug or remembering the past. Desire rises when you fall victim to hormones and look at a woman putting on stockings. Whoever has the highest Desire will become the succubus. This dual favor system introduces many permutations; one succubus will appear but know who you truly love. Consequently, to see everything, including a dozen endings, it takes over 12 hours.

Film directing is more interesting than usual. The surreal demonic influence creates less conventional situations, including duplicates of Zhaozhao and cool transitions. Also, there are scenes in the real world that convey meaning, like when you walk behind Yu Zhi, chase after her in a wedding dress, or undertake hypnosis with Zhong Ran.

Subtitle translation is better than average, but choices can be vague. Video quality is fuzzy for the large install size, and it uses ADR and has some minor face-filters. The game has a very cool 3D rendered dungeon that is used for the collection menu. If you want a strong core story, Soul Touch will not satisfy, but if you desire something fresh then you just might end up falling in love.
