With one FMV dating sim releasing, on average, every 9 days, there is a never-ending source for genre fans. Many games fall in that middle zone: good but flawed. Rebooted Fate is another, and it vies for your attention with excellent adversarial pairings, amusing situations, and competent love interests. But it trips up because it’s rushed, not sincere enough, and overuses face filters.
The story is thin and basically a series of encounters. After losing your job, you acquire a book that lets you see choices and relationship metrics. It also seems to have increased your luck and sex appeal. Naturally, several beautiful women enter your sphere of influence.

Fortunately, the six love interests are eclectic and a good fit for the game’s carefree tone. CEO, Yu Xinmei, has motherly affection. Superstar, Wu Jiayun, wants to possess you. Old roommate, Zhao Tingting, is caring. Car model, Lin Meina, lusts after your body. Flight attendant, Feng Yalin, meets you by chance. And old friend, Xu Qiao’er, is a brat who crumbles when rebuked, and she is barely in the game.
The strongest feature is how the game sets up love rival pairs. Xinmei and Jiayun are fantastic in opposition, acting domineering and jealous when the other is around. This can be hilarious, such as during a phone call. The other pairs have skirmishes, like at a convenience store, but the battle is less intense in comparison.

Much of the game is unbelievable and exaggerated, even in a genre that is not known for realism. You save most of the women from mortal danger. Saving the damsel in distress is great, but a little setup might have made it more convincing. The game is not trying to emulate reality, emphasized by a shootout where dozens die. Half of it is a parody, and it needed to pick a side; be more extreme, for consistency and laughs, or be more serious, and use parody as contrast (my preference). It also rushes through scenes and appears fragmented as a result.
In terms of pure romance, there is not quite enough sincerity. Only two love interests are genuine: Yalin and Tingting. The former is gentle, with a good beach scene and a gradual build. The latter is devoted, from day one, and her yandere style means romance is a natural fit. The others have sprinkles of authenticity but needed more.

There are four endings per love interest, but they are similar and only one is a happy ending. The game would have benefitted from joint endings, linked to the adversarial pairings. It takes over 3 hours to finish and over 7 to see everything. Video quality is good, but it uses the worst face filters ever seen, which turns skin into a featureless blur and trims jaw-lines, which pop in and out. Also, subtitles and choices are mediocre, but they can be fixed with a mod. Rebooted Fate is good enough, but your destiny may be less serious than you expected.
