I’m Surrounded by Classical Beauties! Review

This might be worth playing in VR but not in regular 2D. It is boring, short, unfinished and it lacks appealing interactions. The narrative almost has the bones of something decent: you’re thrown back in time as a lowly servant, but due to great poetry skills, you gain fame. However, becoming famous is skipped over, so the zero-to-hero arc is unsatisfying.

The player-character has no voice over (not a problem) but he barely responds during exchanges. There are rarely any meaningful choices and too many identical scenes. Strangely, unlocked bonus scenes appear at the end of chapters. The three admirers don’t get much screen time, so it is not even worth evaluating them. Some male characters (e.g. the butler) are annoying and take up too much of the story. The only real positives are the sets and costumes.

It will take just over an hour to finish and an hour more to unlock all scenes, which is much shorter than average. The game’s price is very low, which may justify the length, but the story is unfinished. You get to the end and when you would normally pick an admirer it loops back to the start again. So the romances are incomplete. No, actually they never even get started. Video quality is okay, but there is some fish-eye distortion. Audio is ADR heavy, but not the worst. English translation is fine. If this style appeals then you are better off with ‘Rebirth! New lover’, even though that game was far from perfect.
