Statement from the Dating a Ghost team

The developers of Dating a Ghost (鬼才和你谈恋爱!) have issued a letter to address its recent removal from Steam. The letter was posted on Bili Bili and has been translated below. It does not outline what exactly caused the problem, but the plan is to adjust and return to Steam.

After multiple rounds of communication and negotiation, we deeply regret to inform you all: during the submission process for the official release, due to certain content being overly bold and realistic, we encountered uncontrollable factors on Steam. As a result, Dating a Ghost is currently unable to pass Steam’s review process.

However, please rest assured—the team is currently actively pushing forward with new solutions. We hope to preserve as much of the original charm and experience of the work as possible while complying with the platform’s requirements. We will respect the dedication and hard work of every actor by retaining the core plot, character development, and emotional expression. We will also work hard to find a more suitable way for the wonderful content you all love to finally meet you.

Interactive dating FMVs are still a genre undergoing continuous exploration and growth. As creators, we hope to deliver richer perks and content, but finding a balance between creative expression and platform regulations is no easy task.

Thank you everyone for every follow and every wishlist support. Please give our team a little time. We might have to change our look and branding, but the wonderful performances of our leading ladies and our original passion for interactive live-action FMVs will never change.

May all your waiting be rewarded. “There will come a time to ride the wind and cleave the waves”—we believe that in the not-too-distant future, we will eventually meet again.

For reference, Be Rich or Good came back as The VIG after 3 months. Sweet Hamster Days took 6 months to return to Steam, although it carried a mature classification the second time around. And Ghost Camp has not yet returned and probably never will.

Dating a Ghost may well appear in a few months under a different name and with a different marketing direction that focuses a bit less on what got it banned in the first place.
