Love is expensive, but what if you could buy it and still have money left over for a yacht? Unemployed, I Have Obtained Billions of Game Assets (失业了,我获得了亿万游戏财产!) is a FMV dating sim that focuses on wealth accumulation. Its day-to-day structure is appealing, the love interests are great, and side characters are very strong. But shallowness and linearity hold it back.

On day one, you get fired from your job and dumped by your girlfriend. It gets worse; the video game you’re #1 at is shutting down. Good news, a helpful AI assistant will start converting the virtual currency into real money. You are now rich, congratulations, and can build more wealth through daily tasks. Now you just need to find love.

The game has a repeating daily structure that sees you gain status and money. Each day, you can browse phone messages (which contain a high amount of story), buy/sell shares, attend auctions, purchase items, and check the map for activities. The map shows the main story, personal quests, mini-games, and dates. These are FMV scenes but accessing them might require a certain favor level, achieved mainly by sending gifts, which can be a little disingenuous when love is involved.
The six love interests are great and only your ex, Hu Xiaoyun, is a partial gold digger. The rest are helped by wealth but not completely superficial. The TV reporter, Ye Ruqiu, has fewer scenes than others, but is amusing when drunk. Bar owner, Yu Xueqing, is having trouble keeping her place open. Young streamer, Mu Youwei, initially requires the simp treatment but eventually forms a nicer connection. Your old company’s President, Jian Wei, makes it clear she’s doesn’t love for money. And finally, your high-school crush, Su Xin, works multiple tough jobs but refuses aid. The last two in particular are outstanding, despite being at opposite ends of the wealth scale.

Side characters are awesome too, like Zero, the AI assistant, who reacts to human quirks. The sister of the gold digger makes it hard to resist giving away money. Jian Wei’s PA is so good she could be a full love interest in any game. And your buddy, Liu Pang, is a funny side-kick.
There are pitfalls. Most dates are too short and filmed in portrait mode. The mini-games are shallow. Endings are a too brief. While some choices lead to alternative scenarios (e.g. high school vs. university), individual scenes needed more paths. Even the daily structure gets tiresome after day 20.

Since the structure is not standard, game length is variable and not comparable. But expect about 10 hours to complete and that much again to see everything. Audio is partly ADR, with live recording from the last (and best) three love interests listed above. If nothing else, the game has an interesting template, and with a few tweaks it would become like love: priceless.
