I Will Definitely Be the CEO! Review

With a corporate battleground theme and some office romance, I Will Definitely Be the CEO! (这个CEO我当定了!) offsets inconsistent audio, inconclusive endings, and misrepresentation. While not the best in the genre, it is still enjoyable.

You play as Lin Ran and, after struggling to gain employment, finally get a job for Youjia Tech with help from a woman from another company. Following the successful negotiation with a rising actress, you become team leader. But your progress is immediately slowed, and it becomes clear that there is a power struggle at Youjia.

Leaders want you on their side and will either make it hard if you disagree or tempt you with their beauty. Succinct scenes and humor keep this office story light and interesting. Also, you steadily rise through the ranks, which is a nice power-fantasy. You might change sides near the end, as the story exposes truth and showcases depth.

Although the game has six love interests, this is misleading. One of them, Xia Le, is barely in the game. The Director’s Assistant, Lucy, appears far more and could have been tweaked to become a core romance because she has plenty of allure.

Also, most of them do not get adequate endings. You get a few romantic scenes at least; Ye Lan and Fang Tong are appealing in their work clothes. Su Su (rising star) is good but needed more interactions. So it trends towards concluding the corporate war but leaving the romance side in open.

Ye Lingxi is probably the exception. She is a fantastic colleague who joined the company at the same time and proves to be loyal and charming. There are a few nice scenes with her and she does get a decent ending but only about halfway through the game. It could be that a sequel (or DLC) is coming but right now it is like the game took a few shortcuts.

One big disappointment is that the audio is about half ADR (specific characters are entirely ADR, like Joanna and Ye Lan). This sound inconsistency is annoying when others, like the private eye at the end, speak clearly via live recording. Video quality is super crisp and feels almost 4K. The game will take just over 3 hours to finish and over 7 to see all endings. This is not short but feels brisk because the romances are undercooked. Still, because of the setting and humor, it gets my recommendation.
