This is better than a lot of standalone games in the genre, but not quite top tier. Love in the Room is DLC for LiAA, which is basically mandatory for any genre fan. In this DLC, Gu Yi travels to Xiamen to participate in an art competition, but disappointingly this plays only a tiny part of the story and can be ignored.
Instead it mostly involves staying with three female roommates who become admirers. Liu (the male best friend) also comes for a visit and it is good to see him again.

The three admirers are more fleshed out than other games of this type. They all have worries and challenges. The Tennis pro is struggling to find form and joy. The school teacher is good at her job but pressured. And the old school friend has old regrets. You see them together and individually, although the game locks off the date options if you have low affection. The endings are short but okay, although strangely the credits only show the sad admirers you did not choose.
The choices and story branches are mostly standard. There are unfortunately several hidden branches, which are always super annoying; you have to pick a set of specific options (e.g. 1 path from 27 combinations) with little or no guidance, so it’s just time wasting or forcing the use of guides. Replaying sections is made worse because you cannot skip through phone messages. And jumps to the next scene have an unexplained 2-3 second pause.

Video quality is below average, although the audio is good and the English translation is fine. It will take about 1.5 hours to run through once with another 3-4 to see all scenes, which is decent value. Overall this is worth grabbing if you own LiAA and enjoyed it.
