My Love with the Girls Group Review

My Love with the Girls Group is unique because it has real kpop stars that give it authenticity. It ends up being a good FMV interactive/dating sim. The game begins with you acting as a designated driver for three drunken women who invite you back to their dormitory—you discover they belong to a kpop group.

After passing out drunk, you wake up the next morning and group’s boss sees you were caught by paparazzi and, to prevent controversy, he asks you to become their manager. From then on the girls basically fawn over you while you help them and watch rehearsals etc.

There are six admirers and three are genuine kpop stars. The three (JJ, Nari, and Moka) are in the real-life band named Saturday (as Yuki, Minseo, and Ayeon, respectively). Although I have no awareness of the kpop scene, some googling reveals their previous management closed controversially and the band is not super popular post-pandemic. They also don’t seem to be that active anymore, so this game may have been an attempt to raise their profile. While the band technically has four members, one also seems to be on a hiatus. There are four in the game’s fictitious band (called U&I), with another stepping in to do a good job. The two remaining admirers include a school friend, who is now a makeup-artist for the group, and a music producer.

Given the subject matter and the kpop representation, there is dancing and singing but probably not as much as you might expect. Some of their actions are hilarious, including some failed dance routines. The sequence of events is not particularly cohesive or interesting, though. You sort of escort them around, visit a hotel together, post stuff on social media, and maybe do some small activities with them. One group member (Moka/ Ayeon) doesn’t show up until chapter 4, and the producer only appears in chapter 5. So it is quite wobbly with delivery. That said, most admirers are super energetic and friendly, with awesome screen presence, especially Nari and JJ.

While the game will take under 3 hours to finish first, there are oodles of branching paths and it will take about 7 hours to see everything. The paths fracture the timeline nicely, with lots of new content as you join different admirers. After finishing the game, six ‘extraordinary’ chapters are unlocked that serve as 10+ minute endings for each, and these are pretty good. Affection raises or lowers based on choices but you only need to meet a certain affection level for one particular admirer per chapter to unlock to the next chapter—no other paths or endings are restricted by affection level.

My Love with the Girls Group does not do anything fancy, and the story is a bit messy, but the admirers are fun and the branching paths are substantial, with some good finales for each. It has some funny moments and is overall light-hearted. Audio is quite clear. Video quality is okay and consistent, but needed to be higher res. English subtitles could be better but one character uses English a lot which helps. This game might not raise the profile of Saturday to prevent their eventual dissolution, but the attempt has at least produced something worth playing.
